I have always appreciated an expansive wide-view shot.

A great limitation of photography has been its inability to match our vision's natural field of view. Panoramas inch us closer to that full-bodied perspective. In evidence of my love for this, I include a few samples from my film days. Back then constructing a “panorama” took between five and twenty minutes to setup and shoot. Further, it required a tripod, 5-30 scattered shots (depending on the size of the subject), and keeping note of where each frame began and ended. Then, once the film was processed, and again depending on the complexity of the subject, you had and hour or two of post-processing time, doing the tricky work of stitching the photos back together. The labored and flawed process was always tragically obvious, but was not without its charm.

And then Apple (and I reckon others) introduced the “panorama” setting on smart phones and allowed for these sprawling shots to be taken effortless and in seconds. It is rare that these are not always some of the more resonant photos for me. they were then, before this feature existed, and they continue to be now.
