My sister-in-law lived in new york for about 15 years. Her boyfriend was born and bred in the city and they lived in greenwich village during their last years there before moving to Minneapolis where Michael is writing something scholarly for Walter Mondale (yeah, that's the one). Two weeks to the day after WTC, Suzy was still pretty shaken up about the whole affair given she lived next door to where it happened and still has a bevy of acquaintances there. Her tearful story certainly gave me new perspective on what has otherwise been a quasi-distant and quasi-fictional event.

Switching gears, we set out for food and atmosphere and wound up at this crazy diner that smacked of beat poetry and bongos. And just to keep newcomers guessing, they sported a five lane bowling alley in the back that was hotly occupied by a gaggle of pierced, dyed, and tattooed enthusiast. We spartanly split a spinich salad and cajun-spiced blackened shrimp.
